In February 2021, I was invited to give a series of online lectures to final degree students in Interior Design at Camberwell College of Arts; based on my research and writing of "Design Process in Architecture".
Using the book as an 'outline' for the structure of the lectures, the first session explored the underlying ideas of what and why we design, then considered different approaches to design (conceptual, functional, material, computational, etc.) and closed with an overview of different 'models' of the design process.
The second lecture used a single project, the New Adelphi Building at the University of Salford (by architects Stride Treglown) to provide an understanding of the way that design continues and transforms through different stages in a project. The series closed with a discussion of strategies for developing and refining students' individual design processes.
