Between the Vines and the Sea

Central Saint Martins (CSM) in collaboration with Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) developed a project for the municipality of Teulada/Moraira. The aim of the project was to explore the challenges and opportunties of the municipality as it seeks to protect the unique landscape and culture of the area in a period of economic difficulty and urban expansion.

This international workshop, involving students ranging from 1st year to 6th year working in mixed teams, explored ways in which the landscape could be used to provide future development opportunties; without further risking the fragile rural economy and historic landscape.

Teams of students prepared presentations; with the support of staff from CSM and UPV, along with input from local politicians and architects. The resulting projects were exhibited as part of the “1st Conference on Architecture and Landscape in the XXI Century”; hosted at the Teulada Moraira Municipal Auditorium; an award winning building by Franciso Mangado.

In 2015, the work of the students was compiled into a publication with essays and reviews by staff from UAL and UPV. “Between the Vines and The Sea: Architecture and Landscape of Teulada Moraira” is available to download.
