A Digitised Planning System

University of the Arts London, in collaboration with the RIBA Policy Unit, have been awarded funding from Creative Works London to explore the potential of digitising the uk planning system.

This scoping study, led by Geoffrey Makstutis (UAL) and Emilia Plotka (RIBA), seeks to define the way in which a digitised planning system will enable architects, planners, developers and politicians to better provide enhancements to the built environment. By linking a range of different data sources, changes to the built environment can draw upon greater information to ensure that changes are fully understood in the broadest context.

In addition, by developing new ways for the public to understand and participate in the planning process the project will provide a platform for future policy development with the active participation of the public.

This initial project is intended to inform further research and larger pilot implementation.
